Gnome Home for Charity
It takes a very creative nature to be a custom homebuilder, and constant education as new technologies and old habits constantly collide. Therefore, we at Gibson Homebuilders are proud that Jim Gibson is a Graduate Master Builder, certified by the National Association of Home Builders. That means he has taken the time to learn and refine his craft, home building.
When we were asked to build a playhouse, Jim was able to drawn on his skills as homebuilder with extensive knowledge of the products used in construction. With a full two weeks, advanced notice Gibson Homebuilders began construction on a playhouse to be donated to the Parker County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for abused and neglected children.
We had a ball being creative and testing ideas until at last the "Gnome Home" came into being. As a Graduate Master Builder, Jim has the knowledge of each craft used in building a house and many of their skills. Therefore, he framed five circles and tied their rooflines together with lumber. Being a "Green Builder", Jim has used many of the super energy saving methods in his custom homes, so he knew about and has used closed cell foam for insulation. He knows about its strength and attributes. For a long time Jim had thought about a building deer blinds or ice fishing shacks using closed cell foam. So now, he had the opportunity to prove his concept.
We have found that there is an untapped market of Gnomes out there. We build to please gnomes and children. :) In fact, while setting the Gnome Home up for display, many children (and their parents and grand parents) were drawn to the Gnome Home. So with the help of local artist Faith Shipman, children’s request were painted on the home, a fairy, a lady bug, a dragon fly, a frog, a gnome, and a secret doorway to another dimension. :-0
Jim Gibson knows how to build an energy efficient house and the Gnome Home is an excellent example of green building. Over a frame of lumber, closed cell foam insulation was craftily sprayed to form a clump of five mushrooms. The playhouse is sturdy, warm in cold weather, and cool in the hot sun, just as it does in one of our finer homes.
Jim intends to build more "special playhouses", maybe a castle, a cave, a hobbit home, giant clamshells, or Jonas' whale. Whatever can be imaged, he can build.
